Puerto Vallarta
January 25 - February 8, 2015

Our annual visit to Puerto Vallarta has lengthened to two weeks in recent years, but this year there would be a twist. The Fiesta Americana, our hotel of choice because of its proximity to Puerto Vallarta's downtown restaurants, had switched to an "all inclusive" format. We weren't happy; we like eating our lunches and dinners in town. But they made us an offer we couldn't refuse.

Fiesta Americana and Old Favorites

The advance press had not been positive regarding the dinners offered at the Fiesta Americana's new Italian, Asian and Mexican restaurants. However, what surprised us was the quality of their lunches.

116 Pulpito Gastro Bar

Pulpito 116 had been open for just over a year. It's a small space, with limited seating inside and streetside. We dined there twice.

El Arrayán

El Arrayán has been a fixture in the Puerto Vallarta restaurant scene since 2003. It's received many "best restaurant" awards, and deservedly so.

Layla's

Layla's is a family owned Mexican restaurant, two blocks north of the Malecón. There are four levels, with lots of stairs to climb.
